In 1990, Garza Funeral Home, the community's newest mortuary, is imbedded in tradition and faces a future with a renewed spirit of service. Garcia Funeral Home of Alice was established and our professionalism for funeral services grew. It was also during this time when Mauro Sr.’s daughter, Maria D. Garcia Aleman, joined the family business. She is preceded in death by her parents, Benito Rios and Maria Rios Flores, her husband, Hector B. Ruiz, two sons, Ray Ruiz, and Hector Ruiz Jr., three brothers, and four sisters.
Alice- Ruben N Garcia, 95, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, godfather, and friend was born to eternal life on October 21, 2022. Noe Ruben “Uncle Ruben” was born at home in Guajillo, Texas on October 12, 1927. He graduated from San Diego High School, San Diego, Texas in 1945, and graduated from Texas A&I University, Kingsville Texas in 1952 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He retired from Federal Civil Service and the US Army Reserves as a Senior Master Sergeant, and retired from H&R Block as a tax accountant. Nestor and Belinda U. Minerva was a lifetime parishioner of St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church and a devout catholic. She was also a leader and member of the Prayer Group and never shied away from helping the church or others. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting, and volunteering to assist several organizations. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Aunt who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The Loves of her life were her children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Felipe and Regina Trevino Rodriguez, his wife Elma P. Diaz, brother Philip Rodriguez, sister Mary Rodriguez, and three brothers-in-law Jose L. Garcia, Damas Rodriguez, and Hector Campos. Orange Grove, Texas - Eduardo C. Gamez, Jr., 93 years old, passed Monday, December 12, 2022, in an Alice Nursing Home. He was a former employee of Knolle Jersey’s Farm for many years and a retired construction worker. His passion was his yard work, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 71 years of marriage, Consuelo G. Gamez, one son, Eduardo Gamez, III, and two daughters, Hilda Lopez and Luz Maria Paiz; nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. San Diego- Maria Elena Elizondo, 80 years old, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

Business rapidly grew and later, plans were made to expand and open a second location. San Diego- Maria Inez Rodriguez, 81, passed away Friday, September 30, 2022. She was born on January 13, 1941, in San Diego, Texas to Antonio and Herminia Vidal Rodriguez. Maria Inez graduated from San Diego High School and furthered her education at Del Mar College to earn her degree in Nursing Administration. She started her career at La Hacienda Nursing Home in San Diego and managed several nursing homes in the surrounding area including facilities in Laredo, Brownsville, Zapata, San Antonio, Del Rio, and Alice. She retired to her home in San Diego, where she became a member of the Catholic Daughters of America with St Francis de Paula Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents Antonio & Herminia Rodriguez, her two brothers Antonio Rodriguez, Jr., and Romeo “Mighty Mouse” Rodriguez, and her “Nana” Geronima Rodriguez Garcia. Survivors include her brother Ruben Rodriguez ; her only niece Liza H Salinas ; and nephews Adrian Lee Rodriguez , Rodney Rodriguez , Steven Rodriguez , and Anthony Rodriguez with several great nieces and nephews. He was a devout Catholic and a parishioner at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church. He was a great friend to many in the surrounding communities. Was a Banker at several financial institutions, La Hacienda Saving and Loan, First State Bank of San Diego, and Gulf Coast Credit Union. He held the position of Director for the Duval County Welfare Department, and he was also the Democrat chairman for Duval County.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, October 27, at St Joseph Catholic Church, 801 S Reynolds St, Alice Texas. Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Homes, Inc. in charge of arrangements. He married Maria Delicia Ramirez “Aunt Bey” on June 13, 1953, and dedicated the rest of his life to his wife and children. He raised his family in San Antonio Texas, Battle Creek Michigan, Albuquerque New Mexico, and Alice Texas. After retirement Ruben “the Duke” and his “Duchess” Maria Delicia supported the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Daughters of America and were Eucharistic Ministers for St. Joseph Catholic Church. They also volunteered for Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice.
